Thanksgiving is an ideal time to try fresh cranberries, which are in season from September to December. Fresh cranberries can be used in a multitude of recipes beyond a traditional sauce.
A source of antioxidants and vitamins A and C, cranberries are a healthy addition to any dish:
- Use in baked goods, such as breads and muffins.
- Add to a roasted root vegetable side dish or a sweet-potato mash.
- Mix into stuffing to balance savory and sweet.
When shopping for fresh cranberries, look for a shiny exterior and avoid berries that are brown spotted or shriveled. Store fresh cranberries in the refrigerator, where they can last up to two months.
